Local Attractions

Mount Morgan, known as the Golden Mountain, is a historic gem in Central Queensland’s hinterland. Once home to one of the world’s richest gold mines, the town played a crucial role in Australia’s mining industry. From 1882 onwards, Mount Morgan Mine produced over 260 tonnes of gold, making it one of the most productive gold mines of its time. Today, visitors can relive its fascinating past by exploring the Mount Morgan Historical Museum, taking in panoramic views from Arthur Timms Lookout, or visiting the Big Dam, originally built as a water source for the mine. The town’s rich history is on display seven days a week at its museums, offering a deep dive into its early successes and pioneering days.

Beyond its historic charm, Mount Morgan is a fantastic destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy fossicking for gold, exploring scenic walking and cycling trails, birdwatching, or capturing the stunning views from the National Heritage Trail. The town also offers fishing, swimming, golf, and lawn bowls, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Just 40km from Rockhampton, Mount Morgan provides a peaceful retreat while still being close to city attractions. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a mix of both, Mount Morgan is the perfect base to explore, unwind, and experience true Queensland country hospitality.

Love staying here. Last year stayed a week, this year booked 4 days and stayed a week. Kristie and Keith are great friendly hosts. They have achieved a number of upgrades with more to come. Adequate well maintained amenities. A relaxing place to be to unwind, close to Rockhampton without the hassles of traffic.

My partner and I are using our Kui Parks membership for the first time while staying at Mt Morgan Motel and Caravan Park. It was great to receive a discount on our week-long stay! The park is clean, and the owners are very welcoming, making our stay enjoyable and comfortable. I highly recommend this caravan park to anyone looking for a friendly and well-maintained place to stay.
